Finished!
The touch-ups are finished...well...just one more! We began this painting on July 31st. Blue and white shoreline
Bill needs to create a shoreline. Usually he does this with his palette knife but it doesn't make sense in this painting, does it? That water is falling steeply off the waterfall so there would only be the barest trace of a shoreline. The shoreline would be clinging to the rock wall. Against the dark it looks very bright
From the beginning Bill is thinking of the effect of shadow on what he's about to paint. This foliage is not in direct sunlight but it is still bright. So he darkens his yellow just a bit. However the color still looks great against the dark which he went to great lengths to apply earlier! The shadow side
Bill is nearing the end of this painting. He has taken care of the side of the painting that is lit by the sun. Now he starts finishing up the shadow side. The painting is perfectly balanced between light and dark with perfect perspective driving the viewer's eye deep into the painting.
