“You outsmart your canvas!”

Bill shares two important lessons in this video clip. The first, of course, is to plan ahead — know what you are going to put on the canvas before you start. From a practical perspective, that means, if you plan to paint along with Bill, watch the video before you start to paint. In fact, watch it multiple times. You need to know what Bill is going to do before he does it on the video.

The second important lesson is the idea of “nothing against nothing is nothing!” In this clip Bill is preparing to paint a snow laden tree so he knows he needs a background that will allow the tree to stand out — not blend into the background. Here is the finished painting.
