We’re going to let you in on one of Bill’s secrets.
We’ve talked before about keeping your base mountain layer thin. You can see Bill did that with this mountain. Bill’s secret, though, was to work on another part of the painting while a different part dried a bit. It wasn’t much, but it was enough to allow the underlayer of paint to hold the highlighting layer better.
You don’t have to complete your painting in 27 minutes. Next time you try highlighting your mountains, let the bottom layer dry a bit. Twenty minutes would be fine. You’ll find your highlighting layer will go on much easier.
