Bill continues highlighting his trees. His warning to “leave the darks in between” helps to make the trees appear more realistic.
Also notice how he adds the “mossy” area at the bottom of the trees. He allows his brush to get “dirty” as he goes further away from the trees. This is as it should be as the light disappears into the dark. Remember, he had to thin his paint because of the thick layer of paint he put down to create the trees with his palette knife.
