Bill knew what he was going to paint before he ever put brush to canvas. Once he knew what he wanted to do he could begin to “condition” the canvas. That is, he could lay in the base colors he needed to support the rest of the artwork.
A lot of folks think that what Bill did on the canvas was magic and, in truth, it was. But everything he did had purpose and design behind it and once you know what that was, you can begin to use it in your art. The line, the point, the arc, and color, of course, are the tools of the artist. That’s not a lot to master, is it?
