In a recent post, the famous illustrator Andrew Loomis said, “If an artist is good, you can be quite certain he goes for his information to the one best source — life itself. The greatest teacher is nature itself.”

There is no doubt Bill and Mother Nature had a special bond. From his earliest days growing up in a small village in East Prussia to his last days in his beloved lakeside home, Bill celebrated Mother Nature. He encouraged his students to study her and bring her into their art. Bill wasn’t just painting mountains, lakes, and trees, he was painting life.
