On June 1st we’re going to show you how we deconstruct Bill’s videos for our art courses and our members.
Each day we’ll post one segment of a complete painting (Craggy Pass). This particular painting will teach you how to use perspective to create depth. There will be fourteen segments which will take about two minutes or less to paint.
We’ll also annotate each segment (as we’ve done with many video clips) to make sure you don’t miss the essential elements Bill is teaching. Bill didn’t have time to stop and go over every little detail he was demonstrating, but we do have the time.
Bill said in many of his videos that he was not creating a “finished painting.” He was teaching you techniques so that you could create a “finished painting.” The idea is not to create a duplicate of Bill’s painting but to use what he teaches so that you can add your personal touches and make the art your own.
Here’s what you’ll need to complete this painting:
Oil Colors: Titanium White, Cadmium Yellow, Permanent Red, Alizarin Crimson, Sap Green, Phthalo Blue, Prussian Blue, Van Dyke Brown
Tools: Bill’s Big Brush (2 1/2″ Blending Brush), Bill’s 1″ Foliage Brush, Script Liner Brush, Bill’s Original Palette Knife, Magic White™ Medium, and an 18″ X 24″ Canvas (or 12″ X 16″). You may also use canvas paper or canvas board if you don’t want to use stretched canvas.
We’ll provide you with a template you can use to sketch the painting on your canvas (both sizes) and reference, and grid photos to help you resize the painting.
We’ve created specially discounted packages of Paint, Medium, and Brushes for this project. You can order them from the links below.
We’d love to see your “finished painting.” Send us a photo, and we’ll pick the best five. The winners will receive one of Bill’s Golden Palette Knives.
