Today’s Video Clip comes from a project by Diane Andre. She is showing us, once again, how to use the Alexander Black Medium to make painting even easier. She sets the mood and conditions her canvas. Next time she will put the waves on the ocean utilizing the dark already applied.

Key Points To Consider:

• The Alexander Art Magic White formula is different today. It used to be a much thinner consistency and contained odorless thinner. (Wasn’t so odorless, however!). Now it is much safer and a joy to work with. The odor is a slight smell of lavender. There is more pigment in the Magic White and now it can be used in place of a thinner version of Titanium White.
• Diane uses Odorless Thinner to clean her brushes. So did Bill Alexander and the rest of the team. We didn’t have a better solution then, we do today. We don’t recommend using any kind of harsh products.
• She is using the rule of thirds. She adds Magic White® to the top 1/3 of the canvas and Black Medium to the bottom 2/3rds of the canvas.
• She uses a lot of pressure to make sure the paint is deep into the canvas.
• Once the Mediums are on the canvas, she works a tinted color into them.
• Diane shows us that even though she has added more color, she adds a thin enough coat that it doesn’t change the consistency. She wants to make sure she doesn’t have too much paint when she adds the next layer of paint. (Which we will show on a future Daily Tips Video.
