Imagination… Continues
Buck begins his painting called “Imagination.” Remember a while ago we shared a tip with Bill and Buck walking together along the Willamette River? Bill asked Buck to paint the scene they saw, in the Wintertime. Buck loves to paint on a primed canvas. The color he chooses depends on what he wants the overall painting to look like. Sometimes he lets a lot of the color show through and other times he nearly covers the canvas and relies on the undertone to show through slightly. You will see that the beautiful blue color on Buck’s canvas will represent snow. We usually think of white when we think of snow… but that isn’t always the case.
Points To Consider:
- Earlier Buck created a simple sketch that he used for his composition.
- He primed his canvas with acrylic paint and let it dry completely.
- The pattern is traced onto the canvas.
- Buck applies the base colors, beginning with the lightest color in the background and gets darker as he moves forward in the painting.
- He is painting on a dry canvas.
- Sometimes he adds a little Magic Clear to make the paint move easier.
Buck reminds us today that it is ok to copy other people’s work as we begin to paint. Once you are successful with following someone else’s lead, you can begin to stretch by taking the same components in a painting and move them around the canvas. This is how you make it your own and grow as an artist. Here’s to copying great artwork!
Happy Painting!
