How Will You Use This Technique to Improve Your Paintings?
Today’s Daily Video Tip is short but powerful. Lowell will show you how to make a fern from different angles.
Key Points To Consider;
- Lowell is painting on a wet canvas.
- He is using the Alexander LargeRed Sable Brush.
- He mixes the color thoroughly on the palette before he goes to the canvas to get a uniform color.
- He fully loads his brush.
- Lowell creates the middle line first as a guideline.
- He begins at the tip of the fern using a thin, short stroke.
- He lengthens his stroke as he comes down the fern.
- Lowell applies more pressure which widens the stroke as he comes further down the fern.
- It doesn’t matter if you don’t get the right color on the canvas. You can always come back and adjust it. Lowell does just that to darken the second side of the fern.
- We slow the video down at times but as Lowell says, it is easier if you move faster. Use your practice board and practice this stroke several times. You’ll get it!
Happy Painting!
