Shadows Make All The Difference!
Today’s Video Tip is short but powerful. Lowell will show you how to make a leaf shadow on a table.
Key Points To Consider;
- We are only focusing on the shadow today.
- Lowell is painting on a wet canvas.
- He uses flat, straight strokes to create the illusion of a table. Notice the color is darkest further down the canvas indicating that is closer to the viewer. It lightens as it goes up the canvas, or further away from the viewer.
- Lowell is using an Alexander Small Leaf Brush.
- He thoroughly mixes the colors on his palette before he goes to the canvas.
- The shadow is the same color as the table, just darker.
- Soften the shadow by using a clean brush beginning from the outside working into the shadow.
- If you pick up paint, wipe your brush so you don’t contaminate the color already on the canvas.
Happy Painting!
