It’s time to see the Light!
Bill shows you the beauty of the wet-on-wet technique. Last time he created the base layer of his trees, using a dark green mixture. Now he will highlight the trees. One of the things we love about this video is that Bill talks about his love of the earth and Mother Nature. He recognizes the beauty there is in the world and brings it alive on his canvas.
Key Points To Consider:
- Bill is painting on a wet canvas.
- The Alexander 1″ Brush is designed specially to work with the Alexander thick paint.
- The background paint is thin. It is very little on the canvas.
- You need the dark to show the light.
- He uses Cadmium Yellow, Permanent Red, and Titanium White for highlights.
- The light is coming from the right therefore the right side of the trees is highlighted.
- Bill loads his brush with highlighting color (not too much.). He loads just the ends of the bristles as he wants the brush to spread apart rather than clumping together.
- He starts at the top of the tree, right outside the green base.
- As he touches the canvas, he picks up the dark paint, and the value changes. This adds variety to the tones. He cleans his brush before reloading it with light color.
- The bristles barely bend. The stroke is towards the outside of the tree branches.
- Reflections in the water will be created with the same colors but will be muted slightly. The color in the water should not be as bright as the color on the trees.
- You can always tone the color down by tapping over it. If the brush is clean and dry it will pick up the excess paint from the canvas.
- He thins the paint with Magic White® to create a thinner consistency that comes off of the brush easier. Because thin paint sticks to thick paint.
- He has two 1″ Brushes. One for lights and one for darks. Saves paint and saves time!
Happy Painting!
