One of Monet’s Signature Moves!
“Everyone discusses my art and pretends to understand as if it were necessary to understand when it is simply necessary to love.” Claude Monet
Wouldn’t it be wonderful to sit at the feet of the Old Masters and learn what they knew? Have you thought about what you would say to them if you had the chance? In today’s Video Tip, Tom shares a technique used by Claude Monet. It is one of Claude’s signature techniques. Eventually, everyone develops a style of painting if they paint long enough. It just might be something unique to them. It might be the way they sign a painting or the amount of paint used on the canvas. It might be the color palette one prefers to use.
Often people contact us seeking information about a particular “Bill Alexander” painting that they’ve recently acquired or maybe it has been in their family for quite some time. We love to hear the history of Bill’s work. His work evolved over time and yours will too. All of Bill’s paintings that were done for television were painted in less than 30 minutes. Bill’s early paintings were much more detailed and refined. Even though he painted wet-on-wet he still spent much more time on each painting.
Tom Anderson has studied not only Bill Alexander’s techniques, but the Old Master’s techniques as well. So today Tom will share with us a signature move by Claude Monet. After you watch the video go back and study some of Claude Monet’s work and see if you can find where this technique was used.
You might wonder why we are studying and sharing techniques from so long ago. Well, we found this quote that sums it up.
“We don’t have to waste our time learning how to make pastry when we can use grandma’s recipes.”
―Orson De Witt,
Happy Painting!
