Today Bill will continue to teach us by painting a second row of trees and by adding reflections. As I watched Bill hurry when he was told by the floor director that he was about out of time, I couldn’t help but think of how great it would be if Bill was alive today and we could capture what he knows without a time limit. He was an amazing artist and a wonderful human being. He knew so much and wanted so badly to tell us what he knew. He just didn’t have the time to do it. Oh, how we would love to film Bill without the clock ticking! Though that will never happen, we certainly are grateful for what we do have recorded. People today get to meet him for the very first time. For some of us, watching Bill is like watching an old friend. We love and appreciate you, Bill!

Today Bill will show you how to create a second row of “planted” trees. It is a great lesson on perspective. He uses color, size, and placement to show perspective.

Points To Consider:

• Closer trees are larger and appear further apart.
• Bill uses the dark to define the trunks but uses the highlights to form roundness.
• You see Bill painting quickly here because of the time clock that was running. He only had 28:30 min for each project.
• When Bill painted at home, he took his time and was more careful.
• Notice when Bill applies the foliage to the trees the bristles don’t really bend. He is using the brush like a rubber stamp. We’ve seen him do this before.
• He darkened the color for the foliage in the foreground. Colors appear darker when the objects are closer.
