Today’s Lesson Is About Tinting the Canvas
“Darker you want it, the more pressure you use,
not the amount of paint on your canvas.”
Diane Andre
Key Points To Consider:
- Today’s lesson is all about color.
- Magic White is on the canvas.
- The fingertip test to check your Magic White is important enough that many artists used it.
- She is using the following colors;
- Titanium White
- Indian Yellow
- Mixture 1 – Alizarin Crimson with a touch of Sap Green
- Prussian Blue
- Mixture 2 – Alizarin Crimson and Phthalo Blue, equal parts.
- Sap Green
- She is using the Alexander 2 1/2″ Brush with just a touch of color on the ends of the bristles.
- Diane is using a little paint and a lot of pressure.
- She varies the pressure to create different values.
- The paint mixes with the Magic White to create softer tones.
- Please remember, we don’t recommend you use thinner. We use baby wipes and paper towels while we are painting to clean our brushes.
- Notice Diane divided her painting into thirds and used three colors.
- Pay attention to how she works the colors into the previous color.
- She always starts with light colors and moves to darker colors to keep her light colors pure.
- The water reflects the sky color so she uses the same colors in the water as she used in the sky. Blending the colors together in the water is harmonious because they are the same colors as above.
We hope you enjoy these tips. Even if it is something you’ve seen before you can learn something new or different.
Happy Painting!
