Learn how to create sun rays and make your paintings shine!
Today’s Video Tip is something we are excited to share with you and comes from our Beyond Master Class. (a weekly live class with Tom Anderson.). Tom is teaching us how to add sun rays that look realistic with just a few strokes. You will notice that people are asking questions. Questions are good! We learn by having not only our own questions answered but other’s questions as well.
Points To Consider:
- Tom uses Alexander Magic Clear mixed with Alexander Magic White.
- He mixes it so it isn’t opaque but also not too oily.
- He loads very little paint on the brush.
- Tom says you can use any brush you want. He uses the Alexander 1″ Brush.
- The sun’s rays are parallel.
- Using a T-Square is helpful. Great artists use all tools that are available. Using something like this isn’t “cheating!”
- Tom strategically places the rays to land on the lightest area on the ground.
- Using an art wipe (baby wipe) is helpful to help create the illusion that the rays are blocked by trees.
We hope you are enjoying these Tips and that you are learning along the way. We strive to give a variety of techniques that will help you become the artist you’ve always wanted to be.
Happy Painting!
