Preparing the canvas to paint a Canadian Goose.
Our good friend, Anay from India discovered this project while looking through our vast membership library. He loves animals and wants to learn to paint them. Robert prepares the canvas to paint a beautiful Canadian Goose. I am partial to this painting because we have some geese that winter in our pond each year. It is delightful to watch them, especially in the Spring when the goslings are hatched. Mother Nature is truly beautiful!
Key Points To Consider:
- Robert Warren was a friend of Bill Alexander’s. During the late 1980s and early 1990s, we filmed many shows for PBS and several of them featured Robert. You can find dozens and dozens of his projects if you have a paid membership at alexander art.com.
- Robert is painting wet on wet.
- He premixes his colors because he doesn’t have enough time on a 27-minute show to mix as he goes.
- It looks like Robert traced his pattern on wax paper and then transferred it to the canvas using graphite paper. (Tom Anderson just taught us if you don’t have graphite paper you can rub charcoal on the back of the page.)
- Once Robert had the pattern on the canvas he used a medium or dark pencil to retrace his lines so he wouldn’t lose them. (Be careful what you use! Remember what Buck Paulson told us about tracing his lines with a black marker! Don’t want to do that!
- He added a very thin coat of Magic White over the pattern.
Happy Painting!
