Bill Uses Light and Dark to Create Layers
Today Bill continues his painting called “Mountain Water Runoff.” He adds the distant trees.
Key Points To Consider:
- The background layer is still very thin.
- Bill uses colors that are used elsewhere on the canvas to create harmony.
- He places the trees on the canvas using the 1″ Brush.
- He uses light and darks to separate the layers of trees.
- He varies the height of the trees to create variation.
- The fan brush has stiff bristles and can move the thick paint.
- By creating the mist at the base of the first stand of trees helps the next bunch, stand out.
- He uses the Palette Knife to make the tree trunks. By “plowing” through the paint he is removing the green and exposing the base color on the canvas, or maybe even exposing the canvas. This gives the illusion of tree trunks. He will cover some of them up in a later video.
Happy Painting!
