A while back we had an event featuring Tom Anderson.  He taught a painting project called “Snowtime.”  Not only did he offer great instruction for free, but he also offered to review anyone’s painting that painted along with him.  We have learned that one way to become a better artist, quicker, is to be taught and guided by a Master Artist, someone with a developed eye that can spot the changes that will make a painting great.

One of the benefits of attending the review event is that impromptu lessons pop up.  This video tip is the result of a lesson he wanted to share with our audience today.

Points To Consider:

• The further back you go in a painting, the more vertical and horizontal things appear.
• Tom starts with horizontal lines and sharp v shapes for the distant river.
• The lines appear closer together in the distance.
• As he moves forward the angle gets wider causing the banks to be further apart.

Following this tip will help you create proper perspective in your paintings.  Creating a painting is an amazing thing to do.  Begin with a flat canvas and by using size, angles, and position a three-dimensional creation appears!
