Do you remember the first time you saw Bill highlight his mountains with his almighty palette knife? Do you remember thinking it just can’t be that easy! I sure did!

In today’s video, Bill will show you that it is possible to add the details in the mountain with just a few simple strokes.

Key Points To Consider:

• He always considers the light source and direction first.
• Notice the colors he mixes for the highlights and shadows.
• He doesn’t “over mix” his colors.
• His palette knife is flat against the canvas so he doesn’t scrape off the paint.
• He applies the paint to the top of the mountain in a single stroke or two. Which allows the paint to stay on top of, rather than mixing, with the base color.
• As Bill moves down the mountain he applies more pressure and mixes a little with the base color to soften the base of the mountain.
• Bill recognizes where his true source of light comes from.
