Using a Template
Sometimes it is just such a simple thing that makes all the difference. Buck shows us an easy “hack” that makes painting a silhouette a breeze.
Key Points:
- Buck prepares his white canvas by adding a section of flat black, latex paint and allowing it to dry.
- He creates his pattern of “Katie” using self-adhesive paper. (Contact paper).
- He coats his entire canvas with Magic White®.
- He paints the painting and then using a Palette Knife, he gently lifts and peels the pattern off the canvas.
- Buck uses Permanent Red, Titanium White, and Violet.
- An Alexander Round Brush is used to outline.
- He uses an Alexander Flat Badger Brush to fill in the silhouette.
This is a wonderful way to start adding people you love into your paintings. Don’t have to worry about the details, just be sure and get the body type right! Best to enlarge a photo to the size that you want. Cut it out and trace it and you can’t go wrong!
Happy Painting!
