Buck’s blending techniques work for other shapes as well.
This video tip comes from our Still Life Technique Video by Buck Paulson. He will reinforce the blending techniques that he showed earlier while he brings this beautiful shell to life.
Points To Consider:
- The underpainting is dry.
- He follows the shape of the shell as he lays on color.
- He doesn’t worry about the blending until all three colors are on..
- Buck wipes the paint out of the brush between colors to keep the lights pure and to insure he keeps the colors thin so the underpainting will show.
- He uses the zigzag method to blend, adding highlight color into his brush on the lightest area to make sure the light isn’t overpowered by the midtown.
- There are so many different ways to paint something. Experiment! Find what you like and then go for it!.
- Buck lays in texture using his palette knife and a little color.
We find that even if you don’t have the opportunity to paint right now, watching videos and learning from Master Artists, even five minutes a day, will make you a better artist when you finally do get to paint. So keep learning and you will be amazed at your growth as an artist.
