Another way to make a round object, look round.
Buck has shown a few different ways to create form in a round object. In this video, he is going to show one more way. He will be painting over an underpainting that was carefully painted and allowed to dry. Why paint over an underpainting? Some artists prefer to create the form, light, and shadows with one hue modified with white and black. In this case Buck’s underpainting was done in shades of grey. Once an object is correctly formed then the canvas is allowed to dry. Then, with very little paint thinned with Magic Clear, the color is added and the form, lights and shadows remain.
Points To Consider:
- The underpainting is dry.
- Deep Orange is made with equal parts, Cadmium Yellow and Permanent Red.
- Buck uses a soft brush and very little pressure as he zigzags and blends.
- He holds his brush at a right angle to the line as he goes around the object. This gives the correct perspective for a round object.
- Buck always keep in mind what the object that he is painting feels like. For example, he knows that the orange does not have a smooth surface so he pats the orange with his brush to create a pebbly appearance
- There are so many different ways to paint something. Experiment! Find what you like and then go for it!.
