Magic White, not just for priming the canvas and thinning paint anymore!
The times, they are a-changing! Bill Alexander invented Magic White®. We know that wet-on-wet is an old technique used hundreds of years ago however, Bill is the one who brought it to the world in our day. Bill decided that since he mixed every color with white that he should just apply it to the canvas and mix it directly into the white. He found it saved time and paint.
Bill developed our old formula of Magic White. It was a thin oil-based paint that was easy to apply to the canvas. The problem was that it contained odorless thinner. Years ago we decided that it was important to remove all toxins and harmful substances from our products. We didn’t like that something we produced needed to be handled with care. We didn’t like that people needed to paint in a well-ventilated area. We believe everyone should be able to oil paint in their living room if they choose. So we changed our formula. We know that Bill would love our new formula. He didn’t like using thinner either but didn’t know a better way. We’ve said it before that we have a saying at Alexander Art, “when we know better, we do better!”
Magic White is no longer just a great product to use to prime the canvas. It is a heavily pigmented white paint with amazing properties. It still works the same way our old formula did to prime the canvas but it also works well as white paint throughout your painting. It is a thinner paint than our Titanium White tubed paint, which makes it perfect for mixing with colors for highlighting.
Today Tom is using it on a dry canvas to add more light into the sky. Because our Magic White is made with our signature Magic Clear Oil, it can go straight on a dry canvas without oiling out. Your new layer of paint will bond with the dry layer with no problems.
So when you buy Magic White from Alexander Art know you are getting the very best paint possible. There is nothing that we know of that compares. It also comes in an airless vacuum pump that prevents the paint from drying out. Our old formula wouldn’t dry out because the thinner would create a barrier between the air in the container and the paint because the thinner would separate and rise to the top. Do you remember those days? When we removed the thinner, we no longer had protection from the air. So we searched long and hard to find a solution so we can deliver fresh paint without worrying about it drying out. If you haven’t tried our Magic White yet, why not order some today? We know you will love it! Oh, and did we mention that there is a slight lavender odor? That is because we only use natural and safe products. Lavender is a natural dryer. Lavender is also a very relaxing oil. So now not only can you paint non-toxic in the comfort of your own home, you can enjoy a little aromatherapy as well.
Happy and Relaxing Painting!
