New Brushes Will Lose Hair- Almost Always!
Today Bill begins a new painting called “Mountain Water Runoff.” He is painting outside at the beautiful state park in Oregon, called Silver Falls. Filming a show outside is an experience for sure! If only we could have gotten the sun and clouds to stay right in place until Bill was finished! It looks like the wind was blowing a little as well. Oh, how I remember that day!
Key Points To Consider:
- Bill always begins with a thin coat of Magic White.
- He uses thick, firm paint.
- Bill is using a brand new Blending Brush. Always before a new brush is used, it should be fanned out to remove the loose hairs. No matter the quality of the brush, some hair will fall out.
- He is cleaning his brush with thinner which we don’t do anymore. Bill would be so happy to use our new method of cleaning his brushes.
- He is shaking the thinner off of his brush into a garbage can and then uses his beater box to dry the brush. This was a great idea, then. We have a saying we love at Alexander Art. When we know better, we do better! We teach people a much safer way to clean brushes now.
- Bill is using very little paint. Remember, the background colors go on very deep into the canvas.
- He has prepared his canvas for the next stage which we will share with you at a later date.
Happy Painting!
