Sharon shows us how to use highlights to bring “Spot” to life!
Sharon Perkins continues to paint her dog “Spot.” She will use the color she has applied as the dark value and will define the dog by adding highlights.
Points To Consider:
- Sharon wiped out the paint last time where the eyes and nose will go. This means when she adds the dark paint she doesn’t have to paint into the background color.
- She mixes the pink for the ears but uses the wrong red. She prefers to use Alizarin Crimson instead of Permanent Red. Sharon shows us it doesn’t matter if you do something you don’t like, you can always change it.
- She adds Permanent Red with the 1″ Blending Brush using horizontal strokes to create a table for the dog to lay on. Again, if the table is too bright, she wipes the paint off or she can add Burnt Sienna into the red to tone it down.
- Sharon uses very little paint to begin. This way if she makes a mistake, she can easily adjust.
- She shows us that the way to check her work is to step back and squint at the canvas. This helps her see the shapes.
