A long-haired dog is Easier to Paint than a Short Haired Dog? What?
We have a special treat for you. Sharon Perkins, a guest artist on Bill’s Television Series 14 shows us how to prepare the canvas to paint her dog “Spot.”
Points To Consider:
- Sharon created the sketch by using a projector. She just sketched around the outline of the photo of Spot.
- She cut out the area for the slipper.
- She used the cutout to make a pattern and then traced it onto contact paper. She cut it out and stuck the contact papery slipper onto the canvas.
- Remember, anytime you want to paint an acrylic background you can use Flat, Latex House Paint. Today Sharon shows us a Black Background but if you want to use a different color on future paintings, the hardware store will even match and mix a color for you!
- Sharon is painting on a dry canvas.
- She is scrubbing Burnt Sienna onto the canvas and will add highlights and shadows using the wet-on-wet method.
- Once there is paint on the background she uses the back of the handle of the Script Liner Brush to scratch in the sketch. Everywhere she touches the pattern, the paint is removed from the canvas allowing a light sketch to show.
If you are interested in receiving a free PDF with the sketch and step-by-step full color instructions, send Dawn an email at dawn@alexanderart.com. Just say Dawn, please send me the PDF of Spot!
