The Palette Knife does all the work!
In this video, Diane is going to create the illusion of distant tree trunks and waterlines.
Key Points To Consider:
- Diane is painting on a wet background.
- She starts by dipping her Palette Knife into Magic White. (We no longer sell it in cans so you will need to pump Magic White onto your palette.)
- She adds a touch of Burnt Umber to the Magic White and mixes well on the palette.
- She wants the paint to be very loose so it will stick to the thick paint that is already on the canvas.
- When she “plows” through the paint she is removing some of the background color and leaving paint from her palette knife.
- Diane is using a lot of pressure and she reloads the knife often.
- She uses the same movement to strategically place the waterlines where the water meets the bank.
- Notice her stroke is a “sawing” motion.
Diane didn’t have much time to tell us all that she would have wanted to say. She was a wonderful art teacher and an accomplished artist. We are grateful to be able to share her talent with you.
Happy Painting!
