“Why is this paint pulling from my brush?”
In this video, Diane is going to add light-colored buses and foliage. Pay close attention to what she is saying while she paints and you will master the wet-on-wet technique in no time!
Key Points To Consider:
- Diane is painting on a wet background.
- She added some dark trees using very thick paint.
- Diane suggests you get the color mixed the way you want it and then loosen it with Magic White. She doesn’t add much. Keep in mind though the white will change the color slightly. She could have used Magic Clear if she wanted the color to stay exactly the same.
- She taps the brush just a few times to loosen the paint.
- Diane says “Don’t worry about the color.” What? The reason she says this is that she knows the colors on her palette will harmonize. Foliage comes in so many colors that just about anything will work.
- The paint pulls off of her brush because she is painting on thick paint.
- Notice the lights are against the darks.
- Notice in the water Diane begins by adding paint. Then she uses a clean dry 2.5″ Blending Brush to soften it. This blurs the paint which gives the illusion of ripples in the water.
