We Want to Share a Little Secret!
This tip comes from our “IntermediateMaster Class.” Tom is going to highlight the distant row of trees. Though you will see him paint beautiful highlights our main reason to show you this clip is to discuss the brush he is using.
Tom calls the brush he uses stipple brush. This is not a brush we sell. It is a simple “Crayola” brush (or any brand for that matter,) that we bought at Walmart and modified! We painted the handle brown just so it looked good on camera.
Bill once said, “you can paint with anything, even your shoe!” So Tom did. Well here he isn’t using his shoe but he has modified an inexpensive brush to be the way he wants it to be. Here is what he wants the brush to do.
- Be stiff like the Alexander 1″ Brush
- Hold the paint that he loads in the brush.
- Have a variety of bristle lengths to create variety with a single touch.
We want to teach you how to make one of your own.
Tom gave the brush a “hair cut!” He cuts the bristles down but not evenly. In the video notice the length of the hairs in his brush. The stiff bristles allow the paint to. be loaded to the brush but not bunch together. This gives the illusion of hundreds of tiny strokes with one single touch. No need to struggle!
Happy Painting!
