We are showing this again because it really IS that important!
I know we’ve shown you multiple times how to apply the Magic White. Since we will be sharing additional sections of this project in future tips, we want to show how he begins. Getting the proper amount of Magic White, is a big deal. Bill used to say that if you get too much Magic White on your canvas, you will be swimming in it! He was so right. The right amount is really important to set the stage for all of the layers that will follow.
Things to Consider:
- Tom starts with a dry canvas that has been primed with a very bright latex paint that he purchased at that hardware store. He says, the brighter the canvas, the brighter the painting!
- He puts a generous amount of Magic White on the canvas.
- He uses the 1″ Brush to “scrumble” the paint deep into the pores of the canvas.
- He doesn’t rush this part. He knows how important it is to get an even layer of Magic White on the canvas.
- He tests the canvas by touching his fingertip to the surface. If he can see his fingertip, he has just enough. If the paint is saturated on the fingerprint, he must remove the excess.
- He uses his palette knife to scrape the excess Magic White off of his canvas. He then puts the extra Magic White back on his canvas to be used at a later time.
Happy Painting!
