It just doesn’t have to be a struggle!
This Tip Comes from our ” Beyond Master Class” with Tom Anderson.” This is a class where Tom teaches more advanced techniques in a live online session each week. Students then paint from the video recording each week. Once they are done, Tom critiques the student’s paintings and provides feedback.
Things to Consider:
- Tom has a little Burnt Umber in his Magic Clear to aid in the drying time.
- The canvas is nearly dry but not completely.
- Pay close attention to how tom loads his brush. He loads the brush with dark paint on one side and light paint on the other.
- He holds the brush with the dark paint facing downward. This keeps the lights on top where they should be.
- The more Tom paints using the brush straight into the canvas the smaller the rocks.
- Tom varies the pressure and angle of the brush to create a variety of shapes and sizes of rocks.
- The further back in the painting, the smaller the rocks will appear.
- Once he lays the paint on the canvas, he uses a softer brush to soften it.
For three decades Tom has helped people become great artists. He is a great artist but his heart is in teaching others, which makes him an even better teacher.
Happy Painting!
