Master Artist Lowell Speers
Bill Alexander was our first Master Artist to blaze the trail for art instruction on PBS. Next came Lowell Speers our Floral Master Artist. Lowell could paint anything but what he became known for was his florals which he so effortlessly painted.
We have PBS to thank for bringing art to all of us. If it wasn’t for art how-to shows that aired each week, I’m afraid, art would still be for the select few. We would all be believing our art teachers who told us that we should pursue other interests. You would be amazed at how many people have told us that they were encouraged NOT to pursue art. Good thing they didn’t listen!
The downside to the PBS format for art shows was that each week in 28:30 minutes, our artists were expected to finish a completed painting. Now if they were only expected to finish a painting in that time frame, it wouldn’t have been so bad. But besides completing a painting that one would be proud to hang on a wall, they needed to teach others to do it too. No pressure there!
Life is better when we slow things down or shall I say when we stop to smell the roses. Thanks to technology we can now slow the videos down and actually see what the artists are doing. That is exactly what we did in This video of Lowell Speers teaching us how to make rose petals. We can now see what he is doing rather than just watching in awe! Thank you, Lowell for this lesson!
Please enjoy today’s short video.
Happy Painting!
