Repetition is the name of the game today.
Today’s Video Clip is a little longer today and comes from a project by Diane Andre. In another Video Clip, she showed us how to prepare the background with Black Medium and tinting color. Today she will show us how to make all of the water movement. Though she is painting a seascape, this technique works well when creating water movement for rivers as well. This painting would be a very good one to do because there is so much repetition. You will be a master wavemaker by the time you are through!
Key Points To Consider:
- Watching Diane use this technique over and over will help you learn to do it too.
- Before she adds the water, she adds Indian yellow into the background color to show where the sun is shining through. It will show up better when she adds the Titanium White.
- She is using an Alexander Fan Brush loaded with thick, Titanium White.
- Diane cleans her brush often as she is picking up the dark color from the canvas. She wants to keep the white pure.
- The first thing she does is ruin the hard line between the sky and water. She softens it by adding small waves.
- The distant waves are smaller and she creates larger ones as she moves towards the foreground.
- Diane lays the paint on first and then pulls it down into the dark.
