Priming The Canvas
Has this happened to you? You’ve taken the time to design a well-thought-out landscape or still life arrangement. Then you created a pattern and copied your pattern onto the canvas, ONLY to have your lines disappear as you add paint and medium to your canvas.
Buck tells a story about teaching a class where people must have felt that frustration and even tried to come up with other solutions. One solution was to darken the lines with a sharpie pen so the lines would stay visible until they didn’t need them anymore. Well, that worked…. for a while. As the paintings dried the dark lines underneath, reappeared! Imagine the disappointment Buck’s students must have felt.
Well, today Buck is going to show you a better way to maintain the integrity of his pattern. There are a few other tips as well but our main goal today is to warn you not to use a sharpie pen!
Happy Painting!
