An Easy Way To Add Atmosphere To Your Painting
Today’s Video Clip comes from our Alexander Advanced Master Class by Tom Anderson.
Tom is creating a beautiful, mountain, river scene and he is going to show an easy way to get the atmosphere at the base of the mountain.
Notice he uses the Alexander 1″ Brush to apply the paint and then he uses a clean, dry, 2 1/2″ brush to tap the paint into the canvas. These two brushes are interchangeable because they are made of the same boar bristle. The only difference is the size of the brush. Tom uses the large brush here to cover more ground, quicker. He is working on a 24″x36″ canvas. When he paints on smaller canvases, up to 16″x20″ he only uses the 1″ size. Using dry brushes to move paint, already applied to the canvas, is a great way to have control. We have a less is more policy when it comes to painting, especially when you are starting out. More paint is harder to control.
In our Master Class Series, Tom teaches everyone how to make all the colors you need from yellow, red, and blue. Even our first step in the Master Class Series, the Birch Tree is taught this way. Alexander Art sells 17 colors of paint, however, we really want you to learn how to make your own colors so you don’t have to spend so much money on paint. When you learn control of color, you truly become the master of your canvas.
Happy Painting!
