Bill CreatesDimension By Adding Waterlines and an Island
Bill continues with Evening at Eagle Lake. Today he adds waterlines and a distant island.
Points To Consider:
- Bill starts by softening (hypnotizing) the water using his clean and dry 2.5″ Blending Brush. He is barely touching the canvas.
- He loads his Palette Knife with an orange color that he made using Cadmium Yellow and Titanium White.
- He places waterlines by beginning at the horizon where the sun would be the brightest.
- He knows his knife will pick up color as he goes along so he cleans his brush before reloading.
- The lights are thin and short far away. Notice he made sure he was lined up with the sun.
- As he comes forward he makes the waterlines longer and wider. He does this by flattening the palette knife so more paint comes off onto the canvas. On the distant waterlines, he uses the side of the knife to create thinner lines.
- The distant lines are closer together and are wider apart as he moves towards the viewer.
- Bill hypnotizes again.
- Against the light, he will place a dark island. He uses the Fan Brush, loaded with a mixture of Alizarin Crimson and Phthalo Green with small, simple strokes.
- He varies the height of the trees.
- He adds the light that would be hitting the top of the trees. Notice that he added more thick paint to his brush because the contrast was not great enough.
Happy Painting!
