In this video, Sharon adds perspective and design in her painting by establishing a sidewalk in her city scene.
Points To Consider:
- The canvas is wet.
- She uses a clean, dry fan brush to define her sidewalk. She is removing paint instead of adding more paint, which allows her to change things easily if she doesn’t like her lines.
- Sharon talks about squinting at the canvas. This is a trick that allows you to see less detail and larger objects. It gives her a chance to get an overall view of what she has done.
- Once she defines her sidewalk she adds light to it. Notice Sharon is keeping the brush at the angle of the sidewalk but makes horizontal strokes. This allows her sidewalk to lay flat.,
- With that much light and dark paint on the canvas, she must be careful to not get dark on her brush. Notice she wipes her brush often and then shows us how to do exactly what she told us not to do!
- She creates a shadow to show that the curb is standing up off the ground. Again, she is holding her brush at the angle of the sidewalk but using light, horizontal strokes.
- Sharon reinforces the dark shadow of the curb keeping in mind that the shadow will be larger and darker closer to the viewer. It will be thinner and lighter in color as it recedes.
Happy Painting!
