Sharon was a guest artist on Bill’s Television Series 14. She is painting a scene she saw in a dream. Isn’t that a beautiful advantage that artists have? Learn these techniques and you too will be capturing on canvas, what you see in your mind.
Sharon uses three different brushes and her finger to paint her whole painting! Don’t worry she is using Alexander paint so we know that it won’t harm her. If you are using Alexander paints, you don’t have to worry either. If you are not, well, we aren’t sure if your paint is safe. We suggest you be cautious or switch to Alexander paint. A few years ago my big dog, ate a tube of Alizarin Crimson paint. Though it was messy, I didn’t have to worry about it harming her. Thank goodness for Baby Wipes! She cleaned up fairly quickly, my couch, not so much!
Points To Consider:
- She starts with a thin, even coat of Magic White.
- Sharon doesn’t clean her brush but adds Yellow Ochre.
- She takes her time to make sure the brush is evenly loaded.
- Sharon is changing brushes rather than taking the time to clean them.
- The ring of Alizarin Crimson adds color but also creates a barrier between the yellow and the blue. She doesn’t want the sky to turn green.
- Deep Orange can be made by mixing equal parts, Alexander Cadmium Yellow and Alexander Permanent Red.6
- She blocks in color first and then blends to soften.
- Horizontal strokes at the bottom will give the illusion of land laying down.
- Notice she wipes her brush out often. She wants to soften the colors but leave them in the proper area. She is especially careful not to drag the dark back into the light.
Happy Painting!
