Bill is unflappable when he leaves paint thinner in his brush and it makes a mess on his palette. But notice how quickly he solves the problem and moves on.
Now Bill reverses everything he did when creating his clouds. Bill is very careful to make sure the reflection matches his sky, but he doesn’t obsess about it. Close enough is good enough for the reflection. You’ll see why in a second.
Listen to Bill’s warning to keep your paint as dry as possible. That means, don’t overload your brush with paint. You don’t need to. You’ll pick up plenty of color with very little on your brush.
Bill uses a two-step process to create his water reflection:
- Hypnotize (blend) everything with a dry 2 1/2″ brush – keep your brush barely touching the canvas
- Pull the paint down with the 2 1/2″ brush. You’ll notice Bill does this with all of his water reflections – interesting how he doesn’t do the horizontal movement on the water side of the painting – yet!
