Using the same colors Bill used for his cloud shadows, he starts laying in his basic mountain shape. This illustrates an old masters technique of making sure the colors in the sky appear in all areas of the painting. Bill is not worrying too much about the shape of the mountains. Be free with your knife and paint in any type of mountain you’d like.
As Bill highlights the mountains he doesn’t get into much detail with them. They are far off in the distance and the indistinct highlighting helps create that distant perspective.
Finally, Bill uses the horizontal strokes with the big brush to create the final water reflection.
