Bill Alexander.
This video is a continuation of Bill’s floral painting, Midnight Roses. We suggest you pay particular attention to the way Bill lays the paint on the canvas.
Points To Consider:
- The paint on the canvas is wet.
- Bill is using very thick paint with a gentle touch.
- He lays the paint on the canvas as if he was frosting a cake. If he pressed too hard the paint would smear and blend in with the paint underneath.
- Bill suggests placing the darks in first before you add light.
- Bill is more careful as he places the leaves on the outside where form matters.
- He sometimes presses harder when making the leaves to change the value to add variety.
- Ten years prior to Bill painting this painting, he wouldn’t have done it. He didn’t like abstract painting. However, with experience, he is able to paint loosely and abstractly.
- Be gentle with yourself. No matter where you are on your artistic journey you are exactly where you are supposed to be. Just keep trying new things. Study with great artists and learn from those who have gone before you.
We hope you will try this painting. If you do, please send us a photo of your work. And as always, if you need help along the way, just let us know. We are here to help!
Happy Painting!
